Teaching social studies can be tough, especially because it always feels like there is just not enough time. Over the last few years, I have worked hard on creating a bunch of complete study packs that will bring students information about cultures around the world.
Especially right now, I think it’s so important for students to learn not just about the history of a country, but also what life and culture is like right now. It’s my belief that we grow, build empathy, and become better people when we know and understand others and their backgrounds.
I think before we begin teaching students about other countries and cultures, students need to understand their own country (however complicated it may be right now). I made a Study of America that teaches students about government, geography, symbols, culture, types of communities, and landmarks. This first group of lessons is perfect to introduce students to these topics before learning about other countries.
